I was on www.providentmusic.com this morning and noticed a March 22 release date for, "Raising Up The Dead". I was under the impression that this was going to be an Internet only release. Does anyone have any info on this?

It's my understanding that RUtD is what INO calls a "tribal release", meaning that they don't get involved in physical distribution.  They are clearly involved in distribution at some level, as they are the record label of record for the digital downloads.  It's entirely possible that sales have gone so well that the label decided to release it.

If my understanding is correct, and if the distribution is really happening, I'm betting there will be a lot of pissed-off people who bought the top tier expecting that there'd only be 1000 made.  Now, it's true that there's only 1000 of the edition that was signed and mailed.  My personal hope would be that there's an alternate cover/booklet for the non-exclusive release.

This is exactly what I was thinking....seems like the people who ordered the premium tier would be getting short-changed. I have also wondered if the 1000 limit was reached.

If it is released nationally, I wonder if they would release singles to radio?

very good for the band but not for me (mine wasn't even numbered). it just wouldn't look good. in the end though i didn't really mind supporting them.

maybe they could send out something else "special" (even digital) to those that purchased the cd.

From what Derek has told me previously about their distribution model, INO/Provident gives them X amount of time to do their own digital release/direct-to-fan distribution ("tribal release", like you said, Geof). After that point, then Provident sends the album into the standard release channels (stores).

It's good for the artist in that they will get those long term casual sales through the retail channels they wouldn't have been able to touch otherwise, but, they are still getting a much better profit margin by doing the initial release to the die hard fans themselves.

I can't find anywhere that is says only 1000 CDs, ever, will be sold. Just that there is a limit of 1000 pre-autographed "Limited Edition" copies. There can just as easily be a "standard" non-autographed edition that's packaged for retail.

You're right that this isn't out there in the public.  I have it in an email from Christie.  That was the basis for the verbiage here: http://caedmonscall.net/2010/08/02/pre-sale-up-soon/

Things could well have changed.

I just googled the name of the album along with the release date and there are a lot of sites that report that RUTD will have a "wide" release on March 22nd.  This is great.  I just wish that they'd do a tour for goodness sake.

Don't hold you breath. Too many schedules that will probably never line up in our lifetime.

Fat chance.  There's a reason that I flew to Philadelphia to see the 2008 Overdressed tour.  http://www.archive.org/details/CaedmonsCall2008-02-24
