we were finally given the thumbs up to go live late last night.

http://caedmonscall.net/2007/05/22/the-state-of-caedmons-call-may-2007/

The official press release should be out in the next day or two.

(it sucks that I'm not going to be in the band after all)

I apologize for sounding like a weirdo in the interview with Derek.  I think I had a cold.  I'll blame it on that.

So yes, you knew most of that, if you'd been playing along.  I'm also sure, from conversations I've had, that not everyone is going to be deliriously happy with it.  Consider this an early incidence of Festivus where you may air your grievances.

Geof, I'm sure that you are totally right.

no team should ever celebrate being the nl central champs (st. louis included) thats like bragging that you made it 2 second base with a hooker.

Yeah, from the inception of this thing i've been told all sorts of things. i'm sure this has everything to do with all the band members and record label folks and everyone else who had input into this thing. and ideas change, and thoughts change, and seasons change, and my underwear gets changed.

at first it was that derek is officially rejoining the band. then it was just that he would be recording and touring for this album. then it seemed as if it wasnt going to happen. and then it did happen. and now we're here. as derek told me a while back, he and Cliff probably have the best understanding of what this "thing" is that they are doing, and outside of that it's really not important that other people are involved on the micro level.

for the rest of us, i guess, we are just to know that former caedmons member derek webb came back to work with the band on this upcoming record and that he will be touring with them in support of it. this is what we are to know, and this is what we are to revel in.

will they do more records like this? is this the only time? how many records does the new INO deal have in it? i have answers to none of the questions...

i suppose some of y'all will have doubts about this whole thing...i'd love to hear those viewpoints as well.

The good, the bad, and the Ross...share your 2 pennies.

This all sounds pretty exciting to me.  I think this is only going to boost Caedmon's Call's sound and artistic quality and it's going to raise Derek's visibility for solo touring.  It's a win-win situation as far as I'm concerned.

This is only my unsolicited opinion, but the only thing I'm not jazzed about is the fact that the tour is going to wait until spring '08.  It seems like they ought to do something after the album comes out to drive album sales.  Even if it's just Andy and Derek touring together and singing the songs, it keeps the album out in the public attention.  I hope they don't totally take off the entire Fall of '07 because that would stall out a lot of the momentum that they are slowly building.

I share that concern, Jeff.  There apparently will be some release-week activities.  I don't know what those are, though.

DING DING DING DING!  we have a winner!

if they're going to do all this pub, and derek's coming back to the band, and they want to regain the grassroots fanbase, THEY HAVE TO TOUR.

(derek and andy would be a pretty great tour, even i can admit to that)

This is what I've always loved about Caedmon's and Derek, is the diversified thinking and always changing and moving foward mentality. Mental at times, yes! I concur with what Jeff said about touring, but if you gotta have a kid, you gotta have a kid. That is great.

There is a bonus track on Underdressed called 'Carpet matches Drapes'.

Though I had figured this out some time ago, I am happy to hear this confirmed. This move make perfect sense for CC and DW at this point in their careers and will be mutally beneficial, while the quality of the music will certainly benefit as well.  I hope this proves to be the beginning of a CC renaissance.

the best part of derek's interview... (and of this whole fiasco as a whole..)

"... we're kind of picking up at where 40 acres left off..."

and andrew's statement

"..more harmonies, less lead singer w/ bgv's"

i feel like they opened up my head and found my greatest wishes...
