I've always thought that was true for everyone except the Youngs.  For some reason I figured the management/business of Caedmon's Call would be Cliff's full-time job.

Christie manages the band.  Cliff is working for Second Baptist in Houston these days, or so I have been told.  Bryan and I want to know if he walks around up front with his shoes off.  Wink

I've heard (and I won't reveal my source) that he's got kin that does the same thing at his own church. There was also mention of a Harley.

nope.  it's in the megachurch model.  not the emergent model.

So what are the chances that this label split will result in the direction of less albums/impending retirement for CC?  Like Geof said, all the members have other projects & jobs taking up their time, so this makes me worry we won't be hearing anything for a while or that the end is near...

I think what it ultimately means is that Caedmon's Call may truly become a "side project" for all the members.  That's not neccessarilly such a bad thing.  When you are on a label, you are pretty much in a "write the album" -> "produce an album" -> "release the album" -> "tour the album" -> "write the next album" ->.... cycle that never ends.  This will probably allow them to not be under that grind anymore.

They might produce albums a little less frequently and tour a little less frequently (not that they are touring much these days anyway), but they will no longer be under pressure of the label to do so, so they will have freedom to produce material when and how they want.  It also might give them some opportunties to produce material in some different formats (sort of how like OTR has released some solo piano CD's by Linford, and live CD's and such) that the label probably wouldn't have allowed.

I think Caedmon's as an official side project is fine. That's not to say if they signed with like, INO or something I would be upset - but if you ask me, Share the Well could've been the farewell album, and I'd be content.

STW was amazing in my opinion.

Hey there!!

Like the new site design!

To sum up...no drama with Essential. We were nearing the end of our contract with Essential, had one more record, or "option" meaning that the label would have to agree to do another record. Some how it wound up in our favor to make a move.  We were pretty much ready a while ago to be on our own again so we took this opportunity to do that. Essential was into another record but we just felt like its not in the best interest of our future to do that. We have appreciated Essential and all they did for the years past, and still love everybody there. Just business, nothing big. We are also growing in a direction that is very important to all of us...one that has changed our lives and our view of what the band is about.

As most of you know. Share The Well was not just an album, it was the beginning of another chapter. It was and is the start of a Foundation and  a new partnership with Dalit Freedome Network and other groups that are aggressively promoting the exposure and relief of oppression around the world...especially, for us, India. These themes are the result of Gods call on our gifts at this point. If you ask me, through Caedmons entire career, this is what it was all for. So, that said, Share The Well is not the last album. Or...ITCOA II was not the last album. whatever.

As far as what to expect>>

The years go by, we were all young college kids or just graduated when the band started. We played like kids, thought like kids, dressed like kids, but now...we are grown with wives and childeren, Still kids just kids with greying hair and well, yeah, still dressing like kids! The music changes, because we cant think or play like we did then, we dont write about the same things, (since they are no longer relevent to our lives, and we always try to write from a true, current perspective) and we cant exactly tour the same way we used to due to our familiy responsibilities and the fact that those years of constant touring really took its tole on us! HA...were old now and my back hurts! Kidding, but some truth, when you spend that many years on the road pretty much year round, you grow into the home life more and more as time goes on. But, that is not to say we are not going to tour. We are currently working on a plan to contimue to be able to play and sustain the business, its just another phase, and we have to adapt to it. The future is exciting! We have SO much freedom to continue where we feel God is leading us, to do all we can for the Dalits, and ourselves doing it!

On my end>>

I have been playing professionally since middle school and it has always been my main source of income. Here in Nashville i do sessions when they arise, and pretty much spend my time working on getting my freakin studio running...that is going to drive me  nuts if it does not get done soon! Always another piece of gear! Anyone want to donate M-Audio Firewire 1814 and Maudio ProTools to the cause??? So I can get my record out of the crapper??! =P Music has always been full time, it doesnt always pay the bills and it doesnt always follow a 9-5 5 days a week schedule but, this band is not a side project to any of us, I mean that to say that it has always been and always will be, the life bread, or the foundation that allows us all to do any projects outside of the band. We are all musicians, and professionals at that. Sometimes work doesnt come in and money gets tight but sometimes it isnt and theres tons of work...its the life of musicians or artists really...but the band has made any of it possible.

I had the opportunity to record with some great artists over my ladult life, becuase of caedmons. I moved to Nashville to work more and the only reason I could or had the option to do that was becuase of the relationships formed through caedmons that led me here. Its been great and i am very thankful and fortunate because of it. Oh, and Geof, I DID finish my degree, last Summer, and my Diploma is on its way! HAA! Mail order!!! HA! who cares! I got it and Im happy. it was a ton of work but it was fun and good for me.

Anyway, all the rambling to really say that  Caedmons is just yet again in another period of change and growth. This one is just a big one! HA! But, I wouldnt worry, Im pretty sure some really great things are ahead...we are all REALLY excited about the potential for the music and creativity that comes from working with the Dalits. We are looking to the next record and tour and cant wait to get it done and in your hands! and who knows...you might just  see more and more music from Caedmons...we can make records now...whenever we want and we all have studio's in various forms in our homes...well most of us...thats exciting! For all I know, you guys and gals might get MORE caedmons because of the changes! HAAA!!!

Ill stop rambling!!

Thanks for reading!

Take Care!

garett

Oh--- I got to work on the latest David Wilcox record, Vista, check it out...its available on-line now and in stores sometime this month.

peace

Thanks for that, Garett, including correcting my notions about how FT anyone is [although we all know that Miller is a full-time programmer at this point].

Oh! HAAAA! That really wasnt my point actually...just trying to work in the bands importance to all of us and how it has affected our lives to this point!!

But to the FT point, who knows...what is Full Time to an artist?? HAA! The pay will never be.. and the hours are somtimes not, but then again sometimes, most of the time...OT, over time!! HA!  No, seriously, we do whatever we can to pay the bills and support our families, so you are right on one hand, but that wont be effecting the bands schedule, hopefully not, in the future, which is why we are working hard to determine a good model that fits to our lives as they are now..its not impossible and has been done by many others, we just have to do the work to get it there.

none of us really casres about being labeled,  a full time musician or whatever, we are just what we are, people...creative, people, looking for places to be able to be ...creative people! ha! Looking to be used where we are supposed to be used! God sustains us!

Rock on Geof, the board looks GREAT! And so did you last weekend!!

great to see you!!!
