in Man of the house, are these lyrics describing his own life, and if so, did he have a child before he was married? cause thats what it sounds like in one of the verses.
"So now i'm on my way to memphis, cause she's got my baby girl and i meant it when i said it. no child of mine is going to live like us"
just wondering if anyone knows, Michael

Michael, Over on Andy's website ( www.andrewosenga.com) there's a section on his message board called "Questions for Andrew". Andy talks about this song on a thread called "A Small Question", which is down towards the bottom of the page. Hopefully that will answer your question. Nate

yeah, he has all of his lyrics posted from his album on his site. also, kara is not a true story either. it is a bout a girl he met at a concert ( i think.. maybe young life??) and just made up a story about her.
he is usually pretty good about responding to questions.

I mean, they all live in this little bubble, completely separated from the rest of the world. Everytime one of them give their little 'save the whales' type speach I want to say, "no, YOU save the whales you rich jerk, I have bills to pay"- josh reilly "...[i'm highly suspicious]. Kind of like when you have a bowl of pudding -- heck, everybody like pudding! -- that smells a bit like horse crap... I want to eat the pudding, but where is that smell coming from?" -*dan "I used to ignore [people who think christian rock is of the devil], but that seemed less confusing than I liked, so now I just tell them that Jesus loves U2. They don't know it's a band, so everything's okay." *dan

as far as kara, he met a girl somewhere and she had a young life shirt on. he said he'd been involved with young life so he got talking to her and thought she was a cool person. then, like the next night, he went to a counting crows concert and it so happened that she was sitting right next to him. he said he'd been wanting to write a story song at that time and decided to write it with her as the character even though the story was ficticious. i hope i'm getting all the details right. i asked him about it at one of the shows on the jars/cc tour.

Smiddicks is the way I was told to pronouce it by a bartender at the Irish Pub on 7th Avenue named Seamus Kelly. With a name like that, he probably poops leprachauns or something.
